Testing for FCC Amateur Radio Licenses in Montgomery

The Montgomery, Alabama ARRL VEC team gives exams for all classes of amateur radio licenses on the last Saturday of every month (except on a holiday or Field Day) in the Community Room, Renfroe’s Foodland, 9168 East Chase Parkway Montgomery, AL 36117. Exams start at 9:00 a.m. Pre-registration is recommended; walk-ins will be accepted. The ARRL exam fee is $15.00. For registration or more information, contact Rob Shaw, AF4JR
CAVEC The Montgomery Central Alabama VEC team gives exams for all classes of amateur radio licenses every second Monday in the Community Room, Renfroe’s Foodland, 9168 East Chase Parkway Montgomery, AL 36117. Exams start at 6:30 p.m. The CAVEC exam fee is $10.00 For more information, contact Phil Salley, K4PO or Jim Eiland, KR4JY Montgomery’s CAVEC team also gives amateur radio exams at the Montgomery Hamfest.

New FCC Requirement: The FCC would like those preparing for their initial exam to register an FCC profile and Federal Registration Number (FRN), before taking a test. There is information posted on fcc.gov/rofrn informing potential applicants about that need. Also on that web page is a step-by-step video that instructs new applicants on how to use the “new” CORES system to register an FCC profile and FRN. Things to Bring to Examinations

  • The original of your photo ID or other form of identification
  • Your original FCC license and a photocopy of your license (if you are currently licensed)
  • The original and a copy of any Certificate(s) of Successful Completion of Examination (CSCEs) (if you have not received your license after passing an exam)
  • A calculator, if needed
  • A pen and two pencils
  • Cash payment for the test fees charged by the VEC (correct change, please!)
